The Transit Bipartition surgery means “two-way transition” as a lexical meaning. An expanded sleeve gastrectomy is applied in this surgery. Following this, the lower part of the small intestine is connected with the remaining stomach part. This way, two ways are created that the foods can pass through. While 1/3 of the foods are passing through the anatomic way normally, 2/3 of them pass to the small intestine connected with the stomach. The foods passing through this second way cannot be absorbed since this part of the small intestine is short and therefore, the absorption of a significant amount of foods being taken is prevented. Since the sugar in the foods being taken is absorbed very little, the blood sugar reduces to normal levels and the patient loses her/his excess weight.
The surgery is made through the laparoscopic method.
It takes 2 hour.
No catheter is used for the stomach and urine.
The patient is walked after 4-5 hours.
Liquid foods are started to be taken after 1 day.
Duration of hospital stay is 3 days on average.
The patient is discharged from the hospital after dietitian’s training and the patient is included in a follow-up program of 2 years.
